Program: |
Teachers will gain an understanding of reduce, reuse and recycle by visiting Raleigh County Solid Waste Authority’s 34,000 square foot state-of-the-art regional recycling center. Any school in the state may visit the recycling center to learn about environmental issues regarding litter and solid waste management. This is an ABSOLUTELY FASCINATING tour that you should not miss, especially if you teach environmental science. |

Directions to Recycling Center: |
From Glade Springs, head north on I-77 toward Beckley,I-77 will split into I-64, Take I-64 toward Lewisburg, Take Rt. 19 Eisenhower Drive exit, go approximately 2 miles to Patriot Ford (on the left), veer to right onto Rt. 41 (right turning lane before red light), go approximately 2miles, at bottom of hill is an intersection, turn left onto Ragland Rd., go approximately ½ mile, look for a green sign on the right directing you to the landfill. *Meet at the administration office. |

Program: |
Nature walk with a park ranger from the main overlook to Turkey Spur and back, 3 mile length. Learn about the New River Gorge, its geology and history and participate in a scavenger hunt activity that is a great way to get your students outside and learning about habitats. Wear good walking shoes and bring water. Trail is mostly level and stays on the rim of the gorge. |

From Glade Springs, turn right onto Highway 19/3 toward Beckley. Go ¼ mile and turn right onto Route 307 (opposite the Rite Aid Store), follow Route 307 to I-64. Cross I-64 and continue straight on Route 9to Grandview (5 miles from the Interstate), Meet the ranger in the loop parking lot. |

Program: |
Explore the geology of the area with West Virginia University geology professor, Dr. Bob Behling. Learn WV geology from the man in the red suspenders. Dr. Bob will enlighten you and entertain you with his knowledge of the area. Meet in the lobby and make sure you dress warmly and wear sturdy shoes. |

Program: |
Explore this state of the art visitor center and museum watch the 11-minute film. Follow a park ranger by vehicle to Sandstone Falls for a tour of the falls and a simple lesson in conducting a stream stomp or water quality monitoring activity with your students. Wear good walking shoes and plan on being around the water. |

From Glade Springs, turn right onto Highway 19/3 toward Beckley. Go ¼ mile and turn right onto Route 307 (opposite the Rite Aid Store), follow Route 307 to I-64. Give on I-64 East and go 10 miles to Exit139 at Sandstone. At the bottom of the Exit ramp, turn right and go ¼ mile(pass under the I-64 bridges). Turn right at the Sandstone Visitor Center sign and drive up into the parking lot. |
