Institutional Connections to WVNET & the Internet

WVNET provides data communications services to West Virginia public and private higher education, as well as to K-12 public education, some government agencies, and other not-for-profit organizations.

We currently provide high-speed connections via either Frame Relay or ATM. Actual fees are based upon factors such as the "committed information rate" (CIR), as well as setup and maintenance fees associated with the type of connection. In addition, there may also be a LATA (Local Access Telephone Area) crossing fee for connections between WVNET and sites in the southern LATA of the state.

Aside from the actual connection and related fees, your institution will be responsible for purchasing certain equipment at your end, such as:

• a CSU/DSU interface
• a router
• cable and connections
• maintenance on your equipment
