Setting up a New Identity in Microsoft Outlook Express

Adding a new Identity to Outlook Express:

  1. Open Outlook Express
  2. Click FILE in the upper left corner of the screen
  3. Go down to IDENTITY, and click on ADD NEW IDENTITY
  4. In the "Type your name" text box, enter a login name
  5. If you would like to be prompted for a password when entering the new identity, check the "Ask me for a password when I start" box
  6. If you choose to have a password, enter the password in the text box
  7. Click OK
  8. A window opens with the question, "Do you wish to switch to this Identity?"
  9. Click YES
  10. An Internet Connection Wizard application will open to walk you through establishing the settings for yourIdentity
  11. Re-enter the name of the person that will be using the e-mail Identity
  12. Click Next
  13. Make sure you put a check next to the box "I want to use an existing account"
  14. Type in the you e-mail address username@mail.wvnet.edu
  15. Click Next
  16. In the next window, verify that the text in the "My Incoming Server is a" text box reads: POP3
  17. In the "Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP or HTTP) server:" box, type: mail.wvnet.edu
  18. In the "Outgoing mail (SMTP) server:" box, type: smtp.wvnet.edu 
  19. Click NEXT
  20. In the next window, type your chosen Identity name in the "Account name:" text box
  21. Type your password
  22. If you would like the system to automatically enter your password, verify that the "Remember Password" boxis checked
  23. Verify that the "Logon Using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)" is NOT checked
  24. Click NEXT
  25. Click FINISH
